Beef Goulash Soup
Beef Goulash Soup

A delicious hearty soup best served as a main meal with crusty bread, this is even better the next day! -- for a lighter beef flavor use 3 cups beef broth and 2 cups water, I have listed the chili flakes as optional so you may omit if desired or adjust to suit heat level, my family likes extreme heat so I use a scant tablespoonful :)

By adding sliced Kolbász, it becomes a main dish. Served as a side dish with any breaded meat; veal or pork is a perfect match. Excellent with scrambled eggs for breakfast! Many people refer to this is the Hungarian Ratatouille.

Posted in response to a request. This untried recipe is from Gundel's Hungarian Cooking. First published in 1934, this is a compilation of the best recipes of Gundel's, a then famous restaurant, and it's chef Gundel Karoly. The English translation is somewhat broken so I've tried to make it a bit clearer. I am posting the ingredients as they are listed, lard and all. Feel free to adapt as you see fit.

This is a Hungarian cake which I have put together and added a twist. This recipe makes quite a big one, look at pictures to see the size, you can halve quantities. The time and serving are rough ideas as i am a slow cook and the slice depends on how big you want it, remember its quite tall.
