Make this simple dirty rice recipe for a one‑pot dinner with ground beef, peppers and Cajun seasoning. Perfect for busy weekdays.

Ingredients

4 serv.
  • plant or sunflower oil1 tbsp tbsp
  • onion1

    finely chopped

  • celery stalks2

    finely chopped

  • green pepper1

    finely chopped

  • yellow pepper1

    finely chopped

  • ground beef400-500g g
  • garlic cloves2

    pressed or finely grated

  • Cajun seasoning1½ tbsp tbsp
  • long grain rice400g g

    rinsed

  • beef broth750ml ml
  • green onion

    finely chopped, for serving

Step-by-step instructions

    Heat the oil in a large pot with a lid over medium‑low heat and sauté the onion, celery and peppers for 8‑10 minutes until they become soft. Add the ground beef and cook for 5‑6 minutes until browned, then add the garlic, sauté for a minute and add the Cajun seasoning. Cook for another minute, then increase the heat to medium.

    Add the rice, pour in the broth and simmer covered for 15‑18 minutes until the rice is done; check after 10 minutes to test the rice's doneness. If the rice needs more liquid, add water or more broth gradually as needed. Sprinkle with finely chopped green onion before serving.
