A fragrant fruit crumble made with fresh apples, pears or plums and a golden crunchy topping – an ideal autumn dessert that will captivate the whole family. It’s simple to make, and the taste will transport you to warm autumn evenings.
Preheat the oven to 200 °C (180 °C for convection) or to gas mark 6. In a large bowl sift the flour and add the margarine.
Using a fork or your fingers, rub the margarine into the flour until the mixture becomes crumbly and no hard lumps remain.
Add the rolled oats, demerara sugar and ground cinnamon, and mix thoroughly until homogeneous.
Remove the cores from the apples or pears, and the pits from the plums. Cut the fruit into cubes, leaving the skin on, and layer them in a baking dish.
Drain the soaked raisins, add them to the fruit and drizzle with honey.
Sprinkle the prepared crumble mixture over the top. Bake for 20–30 minutes, until the topping is golden and the fruit is bubbling. Serve with a generous portion of natural yogurt, ice cream or crème fraîche.
