Festive Negroni

Give the popular Italian Negroni cocktail a Christmas twist with cinnamon, star anise and bay leaf. Serve over ice and raise a toast to the New Year.

Ingredients

4 serv.
  • cinnamon sticks3
  • cloves4 whole
  • star anise2
  • cardamom pods2

    crushed

  • black peppercorns1 tsp tsp
  • gin200ml ml
  • ice
  • vermouth100-200ml ml
  • Campari100-200ml ml
  • orange slices

    and fresh bay leaves, for garnish

Step-by-step instructions

    Place the cinnamon sticks, cloves, star anise, cardamom and black peppercorns in a dry skillet and toast for 5 minutes, or until fragrant. Remove from heat and let cool.

    Transfer all toasted spices to a medium jar and pour the gin over them. Seal the lid and let infuse for 48 hours.

    Strain the infused gin through a fine sieve and fill four to eight glasses with ice. To make the cocktail, pour 25 ml of the infused gin, vermouth and Campari into each glass, then garnish with orange slices and bay leaves. The remaining infused gin can be stored, sealed, in a cool dry place for up to two months.
