Modified from a recipe that I've been using since I was 10-years-old--these are a family favorite.

Ingredients

40 serv.
  • margarine (softened) or butter (softened)1 cup
  • brown sugar1 cup
  • granulated sugar1 cup
  • eggs2
  • vanilla1 teaspoon
  • crunchy peanut butter1 cup
  • all-purpose flour1 1⁄4 cups
  • whole wheat flour1 1⁄4 cups
  • baking soda1 teaspoon
  • baking powder1 teaspoon

Step-by-step instructions

  1. 1

    Preheat oven to 375°.

  2. 2

Cream margarine or butter with sugars in a large bowl.

  3. 3

Add peanut butter. Mix until thoroughly combined.

  4. 4

    Beat in egg and vanilla.

  5. 5

Sift together dry ingredients in a medium bowl.

  6. 6

Slowly add dry ingredients to peanut butter mixture.

  7. 7

You should be able to roll dough into balls without it sticking too much. If dough is too sticky, add a little more flour. If it is too stiff, add a little milk.

  8. 8

Roll dough into balls. You can dip them in sugar at this point or just put them directly onto the UNGREASED baking sheet.

  9. 9

Place about 1.5 inches apart on ungreased baking sheets *unless the sheet is notorious for sticking*.

  10. 10

Using a fork, flatten the balls a bit.

  11. 11

Bake in 375° oven for 10-14 minutes or until edges are golden brown.
