Transform an ordinary dinner into a flavorful celebration – combine juicy beef mince with smoked bacon in a tender roll, then drizzle with a rich basil‑infused tomato sauce.
Preheat the oven to 200 °C (180 °C with fan, gas 6). In a large skillet heat the oil, sauté the onion and bacon until the onion is soft and the bacon is golden and crisp. Remove the pan from the heat, add smoked paprika, breadcrumbs, beef mince, egg and half of the minced garlic. Season to taste and mix thoroughly.
Grease a baking dish (≈450 g) with oil, pour in the prepared meat mixture. Evenly spread 1 st. l. of onion marmalade on top, place the dish in the oven and bake for 35‑40 minutes.
While the roll bakes, pour the tomato purée into another skillet, set over low heat, add the remaining garlic, the rest of the onion marmalade and half of the basil leaves. Season, stir and gently heat until the sauce thickens and develops a fragrant flavor.
When the roll is done, remove it from the oven, let it rest for 5‑10 minutes, then turn onto a plate and slice into portions. Serve with the tomato sauce and the remaining basil leaves scattered on top.
