Glossy, aromatic pieces of sweet potato, grilled and coated with a sesame glaze, become the star of any barbecue evening — they can be served as a standalone side or turned into a light summer salad by adding arugula or watercress.

Light the closed grill and let the charcoal burn to a charcoal‑gray color, or preheat the oven to 180 °C (160 °C with convection/gas 4). Place the sweet potatoes on a large tray, drizzle with 1 tbsp vegetable oil, season with salt and pepper and toss. Grill or bake for 25 minutes until the sweet potatoes are browned and tender.
Meanwhile, in a bowl combine the remaining oil, toasted sesame oil, ginger, garlic, soy sauce and lime juice. Brush the sweet potatoes with the resulting sauce and return to the grill for another 30‑40 minutes, basting occasionally during cooking.
When the sweet potatoes develop a glossy, sticky glaze, remove them, sprinkle with black sesame and chopped peanuts, and let cool slightly. Transfer the wedges to a bowl, add sliced green chili and green onion, toss gently and serve.
