  • sifted all-purpose flour2 cups
  • baking soda1⁄2 teaspoon
  • baking powder1 teaspoon
  • salt1 teaspoon
  • ground allspice1⁄2 teaspoon
  • ground nutmeg1⁄2 teaspoon
  • ground cinnamon1 teaspoon
  • butter, melted3⁄4 cup
  • sugar2⁄3 cup
  • eggs, beaten3
  • apple, peeled and diced1 cup
  • sour cream1⁄3 cup
  • chopped walnuts1⁄4 cup
  • raisins1⁄3 cup
  • Topping
  • cup applesauce1⁄2
  • teaspoon ground cinnamon1⁄4
  • cup light brown sugar, firmly packed1⁄4

Step-by-step instructions

    For the batter, sift dry ingredients together.

    Cream butter and sugar until well-blended.

    Stir in eggs, applesauce, diced apples, sour cream, nuts, and raisins.

    Mix thoroughly.

    Gradually stir in flour mixture to form a smooth batter.

    Pour batter into a greased 9-inch loaf pan.

    For topping, combine all ingredients and spread on top of batter.

    Bake at 375 degrees F. for 50-60 minutes.

    Test doneness by inserting toothpick into the center of bread. If it comes out clean, it's done.
