This is from the thrifty fun newsletter, and it's awesome. I tried it on the stove top, and it couldn't have been easier or tastier. If you like big, juicy meatballs in a mildly spicy tomato sauce, this is for you.

Ingredients

6 serv.
  • ground beef1 1⁄2 lbs
  • Italian seasoned breadcrumbs1 1⁄4 cups
  • fresh parsley or 1 tablespoon dried parsley1⁄4 cup
  • garlic cloves, minced2
  • medium onions, diced or 1 teaspoon dried onion flakes1
  • egg, lightly beaten1
  • pasta sauce28 ounces
  • crushed tomatoes16 ounces
  • tomato puree14 ounces

Step-by-step instructions

  1. 1

    Mix first six ingredients.

  2. 2

    Form 16 balls.

  3. 3

Mix remaining ingredients in crock pot.

  4. 4

Add raw meatballs, stir very gently to coat.

  5. 5

Cover and cook on LOW 6-8 hours.

  6. 6

Note -- I simmered on the stove top 3 hours instead of using my crock pot -- it was too small!

  7. 7

    Serve over spaghetti.
