Faster than ordering takeout, and much healthier, this low‑calorie stir‑fry is easy to make in just 20 minutes

Ingredients

4 serv.
  • piece of ginger4cm/1 ½in
  • soy sauce4 tbsp tbsp
  • mirin4 tbsp tbsp
  • garlic cloves3
  • pineapple, diced2 tbsp tbsp
  • red chili (flakes)2 tsp tsp

    or Korean chili powder

  • golden sugar3 tbsp tbsp
  • sesame oil3 tsp tsp
  • steak (fillet or rump)500g g

    trimmed of fat and sliced

  • large onion1

    sliced into half‑moons

  • toasted sesame seeds1 tbsp tbsp
  • cooked basmati rice200g g
  • sliced green onion

    for serving

Step-by-step instructions

    Place the ginger, soy sauce, mirin, garlic, pineapple, chili flakes, sugar and 1 tsp sesame oil in a food processor and blend until smooth. Transfer the marinade to a bowl, add the meat, mix well and let it marinate while you prepare the onion.

    Heat the remaining sesame oil in a large wok or skillet over very high heat. Add the onion and stir‑fry quickly for a few minutes. Add the beef and the marinade, stirring constantly, until the meat is cooked, about 5 minutes. Sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds and serve with rice and sliced green onion.
