Bang Bang Tofu

Light dinner! Crispy, sticky, beautiful bang‑bang tofu served over steamed rice. So light and DELICIOUS!

Ingredients

4 serv.
  • firm tofu (I recommend high‑protein tofu from Trader Joe's – see notes)1
  • cornstarch1.5 tablespoon
  • garlic powder0.5 teaspoon
  • paprika0.5 teaspoon
  • salt0.5 teaspoon
  • soy sauce1 tablespoon
  • olive oil or avocado oil1 tablespoon
  • mayonnaise0.5 cup
  • sweet chili sauce0.5 cup
  • soy sauce0.5 tablespoon
  • garlic (1 clove), grated1
  • sesame and/or green onions for garnish
  • cooked rice1 cup
  • green beans, steamed or sautéed12 ounce

Step-by-step instructions

  1. 1

Prepare the tofu: Tear the tofu into coarse, bite‑size pieces by hand.

  2. 2

Coat the tofu: Toss the tofu pieces with cornstarch, garlic powder, paprika and salt to coat (easiest by hand). Then toss again with soy sauce and oil.

  3. 3

Air‑fry the tofu: Cook the tofu in an air fryer at 350 °F for 10 minutes. Shake or stir, then cook another 5 minutes at 375 °F, or until the tofu is crispy and golden.

  4. 4

Prepare the sauce: Whisk the sauce ingredients together.

  5. 5

Sauté the tofu in the sauce: Place the fried tofu in a skillet over medium‑high heat. Add ¼ cup of sauce and quickly sauté for 2‑3 minutes until the tofu is coated and caramelized. The sauce melts, forming a glaze‑like consistency. Optionally repeat the process a few times to intensify flavor.

  6. 6

Serve: The tofu should now be sticky and tasty. Place it over the rice and drizzle or spread the remaining sauce (you may add 1‑2 tablespoons water to thin it if desired). Garnish with sesame or green onions! I always serve it with green beans. DELICIOUS.
