Ok, I don't like raisins. That said, have to post as this was a recipe from my grandmother beloved by all the family (except me). Times and yield approximate.

Ingredients

  • sugar2 cups
  • butter1⁄2 cup
  • sour milk1 cup
  • eggs2
  • baking soda1 teaspoon
  • baking powder1 teaspoon
  • flour5 cups

    plus more

  • granulated sugar1⁄4 cup
  • cornstarch1 tablespoon
  • water1 cup
  • raisins2 cups

Step-by-step instructions

  1. 1

Cream the butter and sugar together. Add the milk, eggs, baking soda and baking powder. Gradually mix in the flour so it will easily roll out. Roll about 1/4" thick, cut out with glass dipped in flour to about 2" circles.

  2. 2

For the raisin filling, place the sugar and cornstarch in a saucepan and stir in the water and raisins. Cook over medium heat until thick and bubbly. Cool.

  3. 3

Place 1 t raisin filling on top of each dough circle. Cover each with another dough circle. Press edges together with fork tines dipped in flour.

  4. 4

Bake in a 350°F oven until lightly browned.
