These homemade chicken nuggets will definitely be loved by the whole family.
Cut the chicken into bite-sized pieces and place them between two sheets of parchment paper. Using a rolling pin, gently flatten the pieces to a thickness of about 2‑3 mm, making them even.
Place the flour on a plate and mix it with a pinch of salt. Beat the egg in a bowl, and the panko crumbs in another bowl. Lightly oil a large tray for the air fryer.
Coat each chicken piece first in flour, then in egg (shaking off excess), and finally roll in panko. Transfer the breaded pieces onto the lightly oiled tray for baking in the oven or into the air‑fryer basket. Coating with one hand keeps it cleaner.
If you are using an oven instead of a pan, preheat it to 220 °C/200 °C with convection/gas 7. Bake the nuggets for 10‑15 minutes, turning them halfway through.
If you are using an air fryer, preheat it to 200 °C for 4 minutes. Brush the chicken pieces with oil on both sides. Cook the nuggets in batches in the air‑fryer basket for 5 minutes per batch, until they become golden and crispy. Shake the basket halfway through for even cooking.
Serve the chicken nuggets with tomato sauce, if desired.
