Line a 25 × 20 cm pan with parchment paper and preheat the oven to 190 °C (170 °C with convection / gas 5). In a large bowl combine the sugar, bananas, oil and eggs and whisk with a beater. If the bananas are very ripe, mash them with a fork or quickly beat with a hand mixer. Add both flours, ground cinnamon and baking powder and stir quickly until just combined — do not over‑mix, as the leavening is already activating. If using chocolate chips, fold them in, then pour the batter into the pan. Bake for 30‑40 minutes until the loaf feels springy to the touch and is lightly browned on top. Cool in the pan.
Prepare the frosting: beat the butter until light and almost creamy, gradually adding the powdered sugar. Fold in the softened cream cheese with a spatula, mixing until smooth. Do not beat too vigorously — otherwise the frosting will become runny.
Carefully remove the loaf from the pan, lift off the parchment and transfer it to a rack or board. Spread the cream‑cheese frosting on top — as desired, either neatly or loosely. Sprinkle a generous pinch of cinnamon; for even distribution use a tea sieve. Slice into portions and serve. Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
