I printed this from Allrecipes.com, where it was submitted by Heather Denard. I added the green beans the first time I made it and it makes a great, easy meal.

Ingredients

8 serv.
  • ground beef1 lb
  • large onion, chopped1
  • (10 3/4 ounce) can cream of mushroom soup1
  • instant rice1 cup
  • (14 1/2 ounce) can diced tomatoes, undrained1
  • garlic powder1 tablespoon
  • dry thyme1 teaspoon
  • dry oregano1 teaspoon
  • white sugar2 teaspoons
  • (14 1/2 ounce) can cut green beans, drained (I use GG kitchen cut for this)1
  • slices American cheese6

Step-by-step instructions

  1. 1

    Preheat oven to 350.

  2. 2

Brown ground beef and onions in a dutch oven until beef is no longer pink.

  3. 3

    Drain excess fat.

  4. 4

Add the remaining ingredients, except for the cheese, and mix well.

  5. 5

Cook over medium heat for 10 minutes.

  6. 6

Place in a 9 x 13 casserole dish and top with the slices of cheese.

  7. 7

Bake for 15 to 20 minutes, until cheese is bubbling and starting to brown.

  8. 8

**NOTE**-Thisfreezes well (without the cheese, of course) so I usually make mine in 2 8 x 8 disposable pans and put one in the freezer for later.

  9. 9

Add a small salad and some fruit and you've got an easy meal!

  10. 10

**Istill think when I read it each time that it is too much garlic powder, but I have tried with less and it really does need that much.

  11. 11

I also don't know why the sugar is there, but the taste is not the same without it!
