Make homemade flatbreads to enjoy with your favorite dishes. They pair perfectly with kebabs, grilled meat and salads.
Place all flatbread ingredients, except the oil, into a mixing bowl with a generous pinch of salt and a few pinches of black pepper. Using a fork and a drizzle of olive oil, combine everything until a dough forms, adding more olive oil (up to 3 tbsp) as needed until the dough is soft.
Turn the dough onto a lightly floured work surface and knead gently for 1 minute until smooth. Divide the dough into 8 equal pieces – you can weigh the portions for accuracy. Lightly flour the surface again, then roll each piece into a circle about 5 mm thick. This yields a fluffy flatbread – if rolled too thin they become crispier and less airy, though still tasty.
Heat a heavy skillet over medium heat. When hot, add the first flatbread and fry for about 2 minutes on each side. Do not press the bread onto the pan – let it rise naturally and brown in spots on both sides. Transfer to a plate and fry the remaining flatbreads the same way.
To make garlic butter, place the butter and minced garlic in a small saucepan over low heat until the butter melts. Brush the warm flatbreads with the butter before serving.
