Adapted from a recipe by Lady2416 at allrecipes.com. A cheaper, less chemical-laden, homemade substitute for storebought "maple" syrup. Still not as good as the real thing, but better than the phony stuff. Don't use light brown sugar; it won't give the right flavor or color.

Ingredients

12 serv.
  • white sugar1 cup
  • packed dark brown sugar1 cup
  • boiling water1 cup
  • corn syrup1⁄4 cup
  • maple extract3⁄4 teaspoon
  • butter flavor extract1⁄4 teaspoon
  • pure vanilla extract1⁄2 teaspoon

Step-by-step instructions

  1. 1

In a saucepan, combine sugars, water and corn syrup. Place over medium heat. Bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer for 10 minutes.

  2. 2

Remove from heat and stir in extracts. Transfer to a glass jar and store in refrigerator. Reheat before using.
