Use small dinner rolls, such as "Sunbeam" brand, or "Rainbo Dinner Time" rolls, each 9.25 ounce size. Rolls may be prepared before cooking, frozen in foil for up to a month, and then thawed overnight, in the refrigerator, before baking.
Toast chopped walnuts, in a small skillet, over low, or medium-low heat, for 5-7 minutes, keeping a careful eye.
Split rolls with a large serrated knife, without separating them.
Stir preserves well, in a bowl, and spread on the top side, of each cut rolls.
Sprinkle with walnuts.
Spread bottom side, evenly with mustard mayonnaise.
Lay on the roast beef, followed by the sliced cheese, sprinkle evenly with salt.
Replace tops, as they were, wrap each well with foil.
Place on a sheet pan. Bake at 325 degrees, for half an hour.
Uncover and slice into rolls, serve hot, or warm.
