Use autumn fruits to the fullest with our simple homemade plum vodka recipe. This autumn drink is delicious neat or in seasonal cocktails.
Wash and select the plums, removing leaves and stems, then pat dry, place them in a freezer bag and freeze overnight. The next day, crush the bag with the plums several times using a mallet, then transfer everything into a 2‑liter jar or split between two smaller jars.
Add the sugar and vodka, cover with a lid. Shake well. Every day for a week, shake the jar vigorously until all the sugar dissolves, then place it in a cool, dark place and leave for two to three months.
Line a plastic sieve with a square of muslin (or use a coffee filter cone for an especially clear vodka) and strain the mixture through it. Transfer into clean, dry bottles, seal with caps and label them. The vodka is ready to drink, but it will improve and age over time – it can be stored for over a year if you can wait.
