Add a fragrant Easter hot‑cross‑bun to classic chocolate brownie for a tender, lightly spiced dessert that melts in your mouth. Cook it in the air fryer for 35 minutes and your table will fill with warm spice and chocolate aromas – perfect for a festive mood.
Melt the butter and dark chocolate in a heat‑proof bowl placed over a pot of simmering water (the bowl should not touch the water), or in the microwave, heating in 30‑second intervals until the mixture is smooth. Let it cool slightly. Line a 20 cm (or similarly sized) baking pan with parchment paper.
Preheat the air fryer to 180 °C. Break the hot‑cross‑bun into small pieces, place them in the basket and cook for 3‑4 minutes until crisp and golden. Transfer to a bowl and lower the air fryer temperature to 160 °C.
In a large bowl, whisk the eggs, sugar and a pinch of salt with an electric mixer until thick and creamy. Sift the flour and cocoa powder, fold them into the egg mixture, then pour in the melted chocolate. Using a spatula, gently stir until the ingredients are fully combined, then add the prepared hot‑cross‑bun pieces, chopped chocolate and marzipan (optional).
Pour the batter into the prepared pan and air‑fry for 25‑30 minutes, until the brownies set but remain slightly jiggly in the centre. Let cool completely, then cut into 9 or 12 rectangles.
