Ingredients

10 serv.
  • ready chilled custard in a jar500ml ml

    (look for real vanilla)

  • dark chocolate100g g

    broken into pieces

  • store-bought chocolate brownies400g g
  • coffee3 tbsp tbsp
  • Irish cream liqueur100ml ml

(plus 1 tbsp extra for soaking the brownies)

  • packet of Maltesers121g g
  • double cream500ml ml
  • icing sugar25g g

Step-by-step instructions

  1. 1

Place the custard and chocolate in a saucepan. Gently heat, stirring constantly, until the chocolate fully melts into the custard. Cover the surface with film to prevent a skin from forming, then cool.

  2. 2

Arrange the brownies in a trifle bowl and mix the coffee with 1 tbsp Irish cream liqueur. Pour this mixture over the brownies. Use a rolling pin or saucepan to gently crush the packet of Maltesers a few times, then sprinkle about three quarters of them over the brownies. Spoon the cooled chocolate custard over the entire surface, cover and chill.

  3. 3

Prepare the final layer by combining the cream and 100ml Irish cream liqueur in a bowl. Sift the icing sugar, then whisk to soft peaks. Cover and chill until ready to serve.

  4. 4

For serving, quickly stir the cream, then spoon it over the chocolate custard. Sprinkle the remaining crushed Maltesers for garnish.
